Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed the referee made a mistake in disallowing Eberechi Eze’s free-kick in their 2-1 defeat to Brentford.
Palace almost took the lead in the 26th minute when they were award a free kick on the right and Eberechi Ese curled a shot around the wall and into the near post. However, VAR checked before the referee blew the whistle for a foul on a home player in the penalty area by Will Hughes, disallowing Palace from the goal.
After the game, Glasner spoke to Eze before the England winger said referee Sam Barrott had admitted he had made a mistake in calling the foul.
Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken was expecting Eze to whip in a cross from the right flank, only for the 26-year-old to catch him out by firing in off the near post.
But despite replays showing there to be minimal contact between the pair, due to the whistle being blow, VAR was unable to overturn the original on-field decision and award the goal.
“I think everyone was surprise that the referee blew the whistle so early, but I’m not going to complain about it because the decision was made,” Glasner said.
As for the referee’s admission of a mistake in this incident, Glasner said: “It shows he (the referee) has character and is a good person. We can always find excuses UFABET. Part of the game is to make mistakes. He’s a great guy to say, ‘Yeah, I made a mistake.’
“I made a mistake today too. It shows what a great person he is to say he made a mistake, but it doesn’t change anything.”
